At UFC Fight Night 29…
According to mmajunkie.com, Mike Pierce (17-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) suffered a severe MCL sprain during his UFC Fight Night 29 loss to Rousimar Palhares (15-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC). At this time, doctors do not feel that surgery will be required. Pierce's camp is currently waiting on the MRI results from his left ankle, which also was injured during the finishing sequence of the fight.
Pierce lost the fight in 31 seconds, which turned into a controversial finish when Palhares wouldn't immediately release his leg lock. Following those actions, the UFC did not pay Palhares a $50,000 submission bonus and released him. The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA), Brazil's regulatory MMA body, suspended him for 120 days.
