It's been a long road for him...
Darrell Montague recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with John Dodson at UFC 166. Check out the highlights:
On working his way to the UFC: "I was getting a little bit worried, but my girlfriend is really supportive. She was like, 'Get your butt to the gym. You've been working so hard. You can't stop now. It's only a matter of time before they give you the call.' That just gave me even more motivation."
On why he didn't get into the promotion sooner: "I lost a big fight to Ian McCall, and he didn't do as well as I thought he was going to do when he came to the UFC. I just figured the longer I'm not signed, I'm just going to keep getting better and better so when I do get signed, I'm going to make a big splash."
On debuting in a main card fight: "It makes training a lot easier. [laughs] I know I'm going to have one of the toughest fights I've ever had, and it's going to be seen by the whole MMA world."
On his aspirations: "I've got to get through this fight first, but I've been dreaming about wearing a UFC belt my whole life. That's my goal. If I can beat the No. 3 guy, you better believe I'm going to be like, 'Dana, come on, man! Give me my shot.'"
On being in the UFC now: "I feel super blessed. Ever since I started training, I wanted to be part of the UFC. I'm pretty sure they were just waiting for the right time."
