Mario Yamasaki has been assigned as the referee for the title fight between UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC) and Johny Hendricks (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) at UFC 167. The judges appointed to the fight will be Sal D'Amato, Glenn Trowbridge and Tony Weeks. The Nevada State Athletic Commission gave the assignments during a meeting in Las Vegas, where the event will take place on November 16 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
UFC Vice President Marc Ratner, who was at the meeting, had no objections. Yamasaki will make $1,500 and the judges will get $1,200 each.
St-Pierre is looking for his ninth title defense, which would leave him one away from matching Anderson Silva's UFC record. Hendricks is on a six-fight win streak heading into his first title fight.
Yamasaki's most recent main event fight was a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in June at UFC on FUEL TV 10. D'Amato has scored fifteen major events including UFC 166. Trowbridge has worked six major shows this year. Weeks has worked five, including August's UFC Fight Night 26.
UFC 167 will be the 20th anniversary event for the promotion and is expected to make a lot of money.
