MMA Junkie reports that Herb Dean will referee UFC 168's middleweight title rematch between Chris Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and Anderson Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC). The event takes place on December 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on PPV after preliminary fights on FOX Sports 1 and MMA Junkie.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission also named Junichiro Kamijo, Chris Lee and Patricia Morse-Jarman as the judges for the fight. All three are veterans and have scored several fights.
Dean also officiated the first Weidman/Silva fight at UFC 162 in July. Weidman scored the upset and gave Silva his first UFC loss. After taunting Weidman and pretending he was wobbly, Silva got knocked out by Weidman's left, who then followed up with some more shots and forced Dean to stop the fight at 1:18 in the second round.
NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer said: "The first fight was quite strange, and I normally don't recommend the same ref for the rematch, but here, I think it would actually be very appropriate."
UFC President Dana White has said that this will be a bigger show than UFC 100 in 2009.
