UFC Announces Women's Strawweight Division, First Champion Crowned During TUF 20

UFC officials and UFC President Dana White announced today that they have acquired 11 female mixed martial arts fighters from Invicta FC and will soon be launching their own women's strawweight (115 lbs) division in the UFC. The division will be launched on the upcoming 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Below are the 11 fighters the UFC is bringing in:

Carla Esparza
Claudia Gadelha
Felice Herrig
Joanne Calderwood
Tecia Torres
Rose Namajunas
Bec Hyatt
Emily Kagan
Alex Chambers
Julianna Lima
Paige Van Zant

Starting in May 2014, the 11 fighters will go to Las Vegas in order to participate in TUF 20. This will mark the first ever all-women's edition of the reality series. This also marks the first time ever the show will ultimately crown an official UFC champion. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 20 tournament will be the inaugural UFC women's strawweight champion.

Coaches for the will be determined at a later date. Five additional fighters will be selected for the season via a tryout scheduled for 2014.

UFC President Dana White said on the announcement: "The women's 135-pound division in the UFC has been amazing and we know there are a ton of talented women's mixed martial artists out there. Now, you'll see even more great women's bouts in the UFC with the addition of the 115-pound division. We're excited to crown the first-ever UFC women's strawweight champion in 2014 after a historic season of The Ultimate Fighter."
