Mac Danzig Says Heís Tired of Sponsors that Donít Have a Vested Interest in Fighters
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 12.12.2013

Earlier today at the pre-fight press conference for UFC on Fox 9, UFC lightweight fighter Mac Danzig said he was going without sponsors for his main card bout with Joe Lauzon. Danzig was by reporter Ariel Helwani during the presser if having his fight with Joe Lauzon being moved to the main card helped increase his sponsorship value for the fight at all.

Danzig stated: "It would, but--in most cases, but I've kind of flown under the radar with all that. I don't have a manager. I'm doing everything on my own, and I'm making a statement with this fight. I'm not having any sponsors other than my gym. Over the years, [I'm] just tired of being a billboard for some of these companies that don't really have a vested interest in the actual fighter. They're just about slapping a logo on your butt and sending you on your way. I'm not going to play that game this time. We'll see next time, but I just wanted to do things on my own. Maybe it's silly to blow off money, but at the same time, I'm happy to be a part of the UFC, and that's the main thing, rather than supporting someone who doesn't really care about me."

Danzig also said on getting to fight on the main card, "I'm very appreciative of the fact that more people are going to see it, but at the same time, it doesn't change my focus or the way I'm going into this. I'm still going in 110 percent. I'm just happy to be here."

UFC on Fox 9 goes down on Saturday, December 14. The main card will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
