Jake Ellenberger Is Open To Fighting Carlos Condit At UFC 171
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.16.2013

MMA Junkie reports that Jake Ellenberger (29-7 MMA, 8-3 UFC) has expressed an interest in fighting Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in a #1 contenders fight at UFC 171. Matt Brown, Nick Diaz and Tyron Woodley have been ruled out as potential opponents. Ellenberger previously lost by split decision to Condit at UFC Fight Night 19 in 2009.

He wrote on Twitter:

After Georges St-Pierre went on hiatus and gave up his welterweight title, the UFC 171 main event was announced to be Johny Hendricks (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) vs Robbie Lawler (22-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) for the vacant belt. Condit will fight an unnamed opponent to determine who gets the next shot. The event takes place on March 15 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Brown was forced out of a planned UFC on FOX 9 fight due to a back injury. Dana White has also revealed that Diaz turned it down and Woodley isn't ranked high enough for the fight. Ellenberger was on an 8-1 run (with wins over Jake Shields and Nate Marquardt) before a decision loss to Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8. He was set to fight Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night 34 but suffered a hamstring injury.
