[VIDEO] Dana White-Produced Boxing Series The Fighters Debuts In January
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.17.2013

MMA Junkie reports that Dana White and Craig Piligian's new boxing series The Fighters will debut on the Discovery Channel next month. Piligian's Pilgrim studios produced UFC's The Ultimate Fighter. The new series explores amateur boxing in South Boston. It will be an eight-part series and debuts on January 23 at 9 PM ET.

The series focuses on boxers from rival gyms in Boston's "Southie" neighborhood. The two will be chosen for a week to train before a fight and a chance to make the jump into a professional boxing career. Former boxer, gym owner and trainer Peter Welch will get the city's best trainers to help the fighters along to revive the sport in the city.

White said: "Boxing has always been my favorite sport and it led me to where I am today. I'm excited to share this project with viewers and give them an opportunity to take a look into the unique world of boxing in South Boston, and to see up-and-coming talent in the sport."

The episodes "documents the daily struggles, personal relationships and epic training sessions as the fighters prepare for the fight of their lives – where only one will overcome the odds and emerge victorious. Every week, these three rounds will help decide not only their fates, but also the fate of boxing in Southie."

Piligian added: "With ‘The Fighters,' we really wanted to get back to the roots of boxing in Southie, where the sport is so integral to the culture. These fighters put everything on the line, and I believe this show will breathe new life into boxing."
