At UFC 168...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Diego Brandao (18-8 MMA, 4-1 UFC) revealed what his strategy will be for fighting Dustin Poirier (14-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in a featherweight bout at UFC 168. Here are highlights:
On his game plan: "I am looking for a few takedowns of my own to see how he feels on the ground. I feel the key to this fight is my jiu-jitsu advantage over Dustin. I think his jiu-jitsu is good, but not as good as mine. I plan to get him down and catch him in a submission. I truly believe in my jiu-jitsu."
On how he approaches fights: "If you worry too much about what the other guy will do, no one can train properly. The way I think these days is by putting together a game plan aimed to destroy my opponent."
On if he should be considered for a title shot: "I'll wait for that. I have much to learn and much to demonstrate so far. Poirier almost got to fight for the belt once, so I know we're getting close. There are a lot of guys ahead like Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes and Clay Guida. I believe I need to take it one step at a time. So ultimately we prove our worth by winning, by knocking people out. We are primarily focused on getting that ‘W.'"
