UFC PPV Buy Estimates for 2013
Posted by Dan Plunkett on 12.26.2013

In the latest edition of his Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer listed UFC pay-per-view buy estimates for the past 12 months. It should be noted UFC doesn't release PPV figures so these numbers aren't official, but Meltzer's estimates are the most circulated within the MMA community and generally regarded as accurate. All estimates are for North America only and thus don't include Australia, which is UFC's third-largest PPV market.

December 29, 2012 - UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II - 425,000 buys
February 2, 2013 - UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar - 330,000 buys
February 23, 2013 - UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche - 450,000 buys
March 16, 2013 - UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz - 950,000 buys
April 27, 2013 - UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen - 530,000 buys
May 25, 2013 - UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2 - 380,000 buys
June 15, 2013 - UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson - 140,000 buys
July 6, 2013 - UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman - 550,000 buys
August 3, 2013 - UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie - 180,000 buys
August 31, 2013 - UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis - 270,000 buys
September 21, 2013 - UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson - 310,000 buys
October 19, 2013 - UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III - 330,000 buys
November 16, 2013 - UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks - 630,000 buys

UFC still has one PPV remaining in 2013 - Saturday's UFC 168 event - which is expected to be one of the top two events they have done this year. UFC president Dana White has predicted it will break UFC's all-time record of 1.6 million buys for UFC 100.

The biggest overall PPV of the year came from boxing. The September 14 Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez bout was estimated at 2.2 million buys. That number was an officially released number, although it hasn't been updated since September and a more accurate estimate is likely available (exact PPV numbers can take years to become known even to those that put on a show). At 2.2 million buys, it was the second biggest PPV of all time and its $150 million in gross PPV revenue is an all-time record.
