Brandao threatened to stab him…
Speaking at the post-fight press conference at UFC 168, UFC featherweight fighter Dustin Poirier talked about his fight with The Ultimate Fighter 14 winner Diego Brandao on the main card. Previously, Brandao had missed weight by over five pounds for their fight. In addition, Poirier and Brandao had a heated exchange at the weigh-ins on Friday (Dec. 27).
According to Poirier, the reason he was so mad at Brandao was because earlier before they weighed in, Brandao had threatened to stab Poirier. Poirier stated, "I was so mad because before we walked on stage at weigh-ins, he told me he was going to stab me in the neck actually. The guy's nuts, man. That's why I was so upset."
Poirier continued, "We were in line, waiting to walk out for weigh-ins. He comes to me, and he says, ‘You stare at me like this again, and I cut your neck. Then what are you going to do?' I wasn't mad about him missing weight. That sucks. But him stabbing me in the neck? That's not cool."
During the presser, UFC President Dana White was asked about the conditions that might've caused Brandao to miss weight. There were rumors of Brandao being in a car accident in the weeks leading up to the fight. White stated: "I talked to him after the fight, and he told me a lot of personal things that – you know, it sounds to me like he needs to get his head together. He needs to make some serious decisions in his life if he wants to continue to be a professional fighter. And he knows it, so we'll see what he does."
