Shunichi Shimizu Determined To Avoid Judges' Decisions
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.03.2014

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Shunichi Shimizu (28-8-10 MMA, 0-0 UFC) said he plans to avoid letting his fight with bantamweight Kyung Ho Kang (11-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) go to a decision at UFC Fight Night 34. The two will be the opening main card fight at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Center in Singapore. The entire event streams live on UFC Fight Pass, 6:30 AM ET (3:30 AM PT).

On how he plans to win: "I don't want to leave it to the judges. I will either finish my opponent by knockout or submission."

On getting the call to go to the UFC: "To be honest, I'm having a lot of fun, but I'm not sure if I can translate that in the octagon. I'm a little but worried about that. It's an entirely different environment from Japan. I'm worried about the transition from Japan to the UFC."

On facing Kang: "I've seen quite a bit of footage on Kang, and I see he is a strong, wrestling-based fighter. I think it's a tough match but also a good match."
