Donation Fund For Cat Zingano's Family Close to Goal
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 01.16.2014

A donation fund for Cat Zingano and her family in the wake of her husband's passing is only about $2,000 from its goal. As previously reported, Mauricio Zingano committed suicide on Monday night in Westminster, Colorado and an online fun has been set up at GoFundMe to help cover the family's expenses. Sam Wilson, a police officer from San Francisco, set up the fund when she learned of the passing as Zingano's insurance doesn't cover suicide.

Wilson said, "So here she's not only stuck with losing a husband, and her son losing a dad, but she's also financially strapped right now because there won't be anybody to help her on anything for her financial means...She hasn't fought since last year; she had major surgery, and she's still in the process of recovering."

MMAjunkie reports that the Jefferson County coroner's office has confirmed that Zingano died via asphyxiation from ligature hanging. The body is being held by the coroner while funeral arrangements are made.

Zingano released a statement on Tuesday which read, "Late yesterday evening I learned that my husband and soul mate of seven years, Mauricio Zingano, has passed away. My life has changed irrevocably. I am shocked and deeply saddened. Thankfully, my family and friends are coming together to provide the support I need. I am grateful for them, as I know there are many difficult days ahead. I also very much appreciate the outpour of support from the jiu jitsu and mixed martial arts world. My husband was well known and respected in this close-knit community and I know he would appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers, as do I. At this time, I respectfully ask everyone to give me privacy as I gather with relatives and friends. Again, I give thanks to all for the kind words and support."
