Leading up to the fight...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Louis Smolka (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) talked about the nerves he had leading up to his unanimous decision win over Aptekin Ozkillic (9-2 MMA, 11 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 35. He noted he didn't have nerves during the actual fight, just the weeks leading up to it.
On his pre-fight nerves: "It was tough, but I did my best. What's surprising is, the whole week I was freaking out. I'm not really sure what it was, but I started hitting pads in the back and I was ready to go."
On who should get the credit: "I just thank my team for that. For the three weeks we had, we game planned really well. We knew he was going to try to take me down. And really all he threw was an overhand right and left hook, so we kind of knew the angles."
On meeting fighters he's a fan of: "I just tried not to be starstruck. I was sitting in the back with all these guys that I watch on TV. Greg Jackson, Duke Roufus and all the Roufusport guys are back there. Cub Swanson. Clay Guida, I ran into a couple times. It was really surreal. I couldn't believe I was back there with all these guys I watch on TV."
