Alex Caceres Talks About His Big UFC on Fox 10 Win Over Sergio Pettis
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 01.26.2014

Speaking at the post-fight press conference for UFC on Fox 10, bantamweight fighter Alex Caceres discussed his win over Sergio Pettis on the preliminary card. The win earned Caceres a double fight night bonus for Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night, totaling an extra $100,000. Below are some highlights from the presser:

Caceres on the win: "It was definitely a great victory over a guy that had a lot of hype coming into this fight. And he definitely lived up to his name. He was an excellent striker. He's a tough dude all over. I definitely caught a couple head kicks for those two bonus checks. But it feels good to win this money. I want to put it to work and put it to some good use. I feel pretty good about not spending it frivolously. I want to be able to invest it into something that might grow later on in the future."

Caceres on his walkout song, "One Trick Pony," by Paul Simon: "I just really like the song. It's one of my favorite songs in the entire world. Paul Simon, I think, is one of the greatest singers and songwriters of our time or before my time."

Caceres on pulling off the submission and escaping the heel hook: "Once he went for the heel hook (in the third), I thought, I've been in this position before I know how to take the back from here.' It was kind of like going through the motions we practice it a lot at the (MMA) Lab. I was able to secure that rear-naked choke, and once I sunk my hand in, I knew it was in pretty deep. I knew I was in short time, but I felt nothing but neck, so I felt confident he was going to tap after that."

Caceres on what is next after the win: "Hopefully this should propel me up into the main-card spots, fighting some top-10 guys. There's nothing left for me to do but get better and I can only hope they can give me some guys that are up there."
