Who does he think will win the welterweight belt?
MMA Junkie reports that during a Q&A with fans at UFC on FOX 10 this past Friday in Chicago, Tyron Woodley (12-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) gave his thoughts on the upcoming welterweight title fight between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler at UFC 171. The fight takes place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on March 15. Woodley will meet Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in a fight that could determine who gets the next shot at the belt.
Georges St-Pierre recently vacated the title, leaving Hendricks and Lawler to fight to see who will get it. This fight will crown the first new welterweight champion since Matt Serra. He held the belt from April 2007 when he beat GSP, but lost it a year later in the rematch. Woodley said it was hard to predict who will win the fight.
He said: "(Hendricks has) been around for a long time, and he's definitely leading the pack right now. He's got great wrestling, good power and he's been in some tough, valid matches lately. But since Robbie dropped down to 170, he's been on a tear. This is the first time in a while you've seen two guys that are coming up at the same time and are both equally hungry. Whoever lands that hard blow first is probably going to win."
