In an interview with MMA Junkie (which you can find here and here), Cub Swanson (20-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) spoke about the featherweight title match between Jose Aldo (23-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and Ricardo Lamas (13-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) at UFC 169 tonight at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. He mentioned this possibility that he may be the next to challenge for the belt.
He said: "Well, I'm here. They brought me out, so that must say something. I think I'm definitely the favorite, but they haven't given me any confirmation on me being the next in line. I'm hoping for it, and I know the fans want to see it, so we'll see what happens."
The top names in the featherweight division also includes Chad Mendes, who may get the shot before Swanson.
Swanson also provided his thoughts on how boxer Floyd "Money" Mayweather would do in the UFC. Mayweather has a boxing record of 45-0.
He added: "Personally, I know he'd get killed. I think he is the best boxer out there right now, and I think that he's the master of his craft, but that's just one aspect of fighting. If it were a kickboxing match say between me and him, I think I'd win. In MMA? I'd win. In a street fight? I'd win. He'd get me in the boxing match."
Many other fighters have had this thought about Mayweather in the past, who has criticized MMA before.
