Jacare helped him during his training...
UFC lightweight fighter Alan Patrick recently discussed his UFC 169 win over John Makdessi and how training with Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza helped him prepare for the fight. Below are some highlights:
Patrick on not having Jacare in his corner for the fight: "I didn't miss Jacare's physical presence because I always feel him with me. Before I traveled, he encouraged me to keep a cool head and remember that I had trained well. He always helps me feel very comfortable. He's like my brother – we are family. I always give 100 percent, and ‘Jacare' tells me that if I always give 100 percent, I will be champion one day."
Patrick on his backflip at the weigh-ins: "I heard that Dana White was impressed – that he never saw someone with that much energy at the weigh-ins, to do a backflip like that right after cutting weight. Both Dana and Lorenzo Fertitta were laughing about my antics. I even scared the ring girls. Burt Watson yelled out, ‘Showtime!'"
Patrick on how Jacare helps him during training: "It looks like I successfully leaped a big bonfire (against Makdessi). Ultimately, I thank my team. ‘Jacare' really beats me up during training. He walks around at 209 pounds. He tells me, ‘Nuguette, I do this for your benefit. You'll thank me later.' It's true. Makdessi didn't pressure me even 5 percent as hard as how hard ‘Jacare' trains with me."
