A suspect has been questioned following the shooting death of MMA fighter and teacher Luiz de Franca. De Franca was shot in his Natal, Brazil school on Monday and police chief Silvio Fernando told Globo that a police officer suspected of the shooting has given an incriminating statement. He did not say whether charges had been filed.
According to Fernando, military police lieutenant Iranildo Felix was unable to accound for his activities on Monday and had a weak alibi. Franca was shot several times with a .40 caliber pistal. Fernando was reportedly expelled from the academy two weeks ago for getting into street fights.
The academy is an affiliate of Brazilian MMA team Nova Uniao, itself home to the likes of Renan Barao, Ronny Markes, Jussier Formiga and Claudia Gadelha.
