Stephen Thompson Discusses His UFC 170 Bout With Robert Whittaker
Posted by Larry Csonka on 02.21.2014

- Stephen Thompson (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) spoke about tomorrow's fight with Robert Whittaker (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC). Here are the highlights…

On Being Excited For The Fight: "I've had these few knockouts, but I want to test my wrestling," Thompson said. "You always are aware and ready for wherever the fight goes. But I'm super excited for this one."

On Suffering His First Loss: "It was a huge weight off my shoulders," he said. "I'm upset that it happened, because I know that I'm a better fighter than that. I know I can beat Matt Brown. But it's a good thing, because now I don't have all that weight on my shoulders. I can just go on and fight now."

On Standing and Banging With Whittaker: "It makes me feel good that [Whittaker] says he is going to stand there and bang with me," Thompson said. "He is a striker, but he trains at Tristar, and those guys have awesome wrestling, awesome jiu-jitsu, so I'm not going to take that away from him."
