He's not touching gloves with Mike Ricci...
Jorge Gurgel recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Mike Ricci tonight at Titan FC 27. Check out the highlights:
On his plan for the fight: "I'm coming to the cage angry. I'm not touching gloves. I've had a lot of personal battles lately. It's been really difficult physically and mentally, running my business at the same time. Running my own camp and bringing people in, it's been difficult. But I got through and I'm in the best shape of my life. I know Mike likes to establish the distance. He's got a great jab, he's got great length, and I don't plan on letting him do that. I don't see this going to a decision. I'm going to make this into a dogfight."
On how he's approaching Ricci: "Do I approach him differently? Of course. He comes from a very methodical camp. I know he comes with a game plan. He's a humongous lightweight. He's got an eight-inch reach on me. He's a southpaw. He's been criticized, as well, for being a boring fighter, so I know he's got goals and is looking past me. I'm fighting for the promotion owned by his manager. He wants to go back to the UFC and make me a big feather in his cap. I'm going to use my intelligence against Mike Ricci and leave him disappointed."
On wanting to inspire those around him: "I want my life to be my example. I like to be the front general right there taking center stage and telling people to look in the mirror and say, ‘I can.' Do something special. Do something different. I do that through martial arts. I have a huge passion for martial arts – not for MMA. Fighting is a very small part of my life. Passing my knowledge and my experience, that's my true calling."
