A tragic situation...
EFC Africa has sent out a press release that reports that fighter Booto Guylain has passed away at the age of 29 due to a serious head injury he suffered in a fight on February 27.
After the fight was over, he was stabilized by the medical team and taken to the hospital for treatment for swelling and bleeding on the brain. He received care from one of South Africa's top neuro-surgical teams but could not be saved.
EFC AFRICA president Cairo Howarth said: "We are devastated. This is a huge loss to the sport and to all who know him. Our thoughts are with his family in this trying time."
Fatal injuries rarely occur in MMA due to the emphasis on safety, but they have happened. ONEPLAN, EFC AFRICA's disability partner (since October 2013) will provide financial support to his family.
Howard added: "We are very grateful that ONEPLAN is here in this difficult time, and we thank them for their support."
Guylain is survived by his wife and son. All fighters at EFC AFRICA 28 (on March 27) will wear black armbands to honor his memory. 411 would like to give our condolences to his family, friends and fans.
