He planned to retire going into the fight.
- Cyrille Diabate had announced on Thursday that he would be retiring following the UFC Fight Night 37. Following his loss to Illir Latifi at the event, he spoke with mmajunkie.com about the decision to call it quits…
On Retiring: "This was my last," he said. "I've been fighting 22 years in various combat sports. I've had a fantastic career. I've enjoyed myself – that's the main part and most important part, enjoying yourself. And that's it. It's time to move on."
On His Plans: "I've got plans," he said. "I want to open up a Snake Team in central Paris. I've got some acting to do. I've just put so many things to the side for 22 years. And when you want to be a professional fighter and compete at this kind of level, you've got to be 100 percent focused."
On His Career: "I was at the top in kickboxing and muay Thai," he said. "I switched to MMA at one point in my career, and I reached the top – I fought in PRIDE, and I fought in the UFC. How can I do better?"
