New UFC fighter Neil Seery received praise from UFC President Dana White and his UFC Fight Night 37 opponent Brad Pickett after his performance last night on the main card. Seery lost to Pickett by unanimous decision and was a late-notice replacement after Pickett's original opponent, Ian McCall, had to drop out due to injury.
White stated on his performance: "He looked fantastic tonight going in against a ranked, unbelievably tough guy. I say this about every guy who comes in here for the first time: I don't care where you've fought or what you've done or how big of crowds you've been in front of – the UFC is a completely different level when you come in here. The nerves get to you and everything." He added, "Nothing got to that guy. He looked unbelievable tonight. He didn't gas out. He was going from the first round to the last round to the bell. I'm very impressed with him, and I look forward to seeing him fight again."
After the fight Pickett said on his opponent: "My hat's off to Neil Seery. He was game. He was very tough. When it got it to the floor, I was thinking I was going to submit him. He was keeping it very defensive. He just held on and just didn't give me any opportunities. I'm one of those guys, I'm good at finishing someone when the ground is a bit more fluid. He sort of nullified it, which was good for him. But it didn't make for one of my more exciting performances."
