He earned it...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney revealed that while the next fight for the Bellator featherweight title will be Pat Curran vs Patricio Freire, Daniel Straus will get the next shot. Straus lost to Curran at Bellator 112 on Friday night when he submitted to a rear naked choke with 14 seconds left in the fight.
On feeling justified in making another Curran/Straus fight: "There were a lot of questions as to why I decided to make this rematch, and I had a lot of reasons in my head. But hopefully, this justifies the decision-making process, because that was an unbelievable fight. That was just electrifying."
On who gets the next title fight: "I'm sure the first question anyone would raise would be rematch, because the fight was razor-thin and I think the latest finish in a five-round fight in Bellator history. But what I will say is this: Patricio ‘Pitbull' deserves his world title fight. Patricio ‘Pitbull' will get his world title fight next against Pat Curran. The winner of that fight for the world title will face (Straus)."
On being happy with the ratings for the event: "WIth that kind of performance, I'd love to see these guys on a premium-level event. But I'm confident the numbers on Spike are going to go through the roof this week. We had great numbers two weeks ago, great numbers last week, but I can't imagine they're going to go anywhere but up this week."
