Bad news for the champ...
MMA Fighting reports that Johny Hendricks has suffered a torn right bicep and will have surgery on Monday. He beat Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 with the torn bicep and a fractured left shin in Dallas to become the new welterweight champion this past Saturday.
His manager Ted Ehrhardt said that Hendricks injured the bicep two weeks before the fight and thought about canceling the fight as a result. He heard it pop in the first round, where he also suffered the hairline fracture. If the surgery goes well, he will be able to start rehab in four weeks. After four weeks of rehab, he will likely be able to resume training in two months. The shin will require a longer recovery time.
While asked about pulling out of the fight on The MMA Hour, Hendricks said: "We thought about it, but that world championship means a lot more."
