He regrets threatening to stab him...
Diego Brandao recently spoke about his fight with Will Chope at UFC Fight Night 38. Check out the highlights:
On threatening to stab Dustin Poirier before their UFC 168 fight: "I recognize I acted stupid. I don't like myself when I get too angry, because I don't like me when I'm angry...I want to prove to everyone I'm a good person, and I'm a good fighter, as well."
On wanting another shot at Poirier: "I wanted to jump on him, but I couldn't. I know this (fight) is going to happen again. I know me and Poirier are going to meet again, and I'm going to be better."
On changing his nickname: "My original nickname, Ceara, came from fighting at soccer games in Manaus as a kid. Ceara is the state of my birth. So that's how I was known in the fight circuit in Brazil. But in America, it's Diego Brandao …'Boom.'"
On training at Jackson-Winkeljohn's MMA: "It was very hard for me at Jackson's. I didn't have a social life. When [a Brazilian teammate] would come to visit, I would cry because I was so happy to see him. Over there, no one would go out together. It was all business. Some fans don't understand the battles we face. I want to prove to myself only that Diego Brandao can be the UFC champion. I wouldn't mind returning the belt right there at the press conference."
On his goals: "I want to fight two or three times more, and depending on how the performances go, I want a title fight for sure...I was feeling burned out from MMA. But I would rather speak about my next fight next. That's my focus right now. After my next victory I would like to pretty-please ask for a rematch against Dustin Poirier. I know I can beat him. Right now, this will be the first time I fight in shape in the UFC. When I'm happy, I'm dangerous. When I am in good shape, I can fight to my full potential. I've been wanting to use the Superman punches that coach Jackson taught me. I'm back to way things used to be in Manaus. I am back to my roots. You'll see me fight the way I fought in ‘TUF.'"
