Chris Weidman Injured, Out of UFC 173 Main Event
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 03.24.2014

The UFC has officially announced that UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, is injured and been forced to withdraw from his scheduled main event bout against Lyoto Machida at UFC 173 this May. You can read UFC's full announcement below. As a result, the middleweight title bout between Weidman and Machida has been rescheduled for UFC's upcoming event on Saturday, July 5.

The fight was already recently changed from Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort after the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced their ban on testosterone replacement therapy. Belfort did not have enough time to transition off of his TRT regime in order to become licensed for the fight.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today that middleweight champion Chris Weidman has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Lyoto Machida on May 24. Weidman suffered a knee injury that will require minor surgery and his bout with Machida has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 5. A new main event for UFC 173 on May 24 will be announced in the days to come.
