Justin Gaethje Says He May Have to Sign With the UFC Eventually
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 03.31.2014

World Series of Fighting lightweight champion Justin Gaethje recently spoke about his fight with Nick Newell at WSOF 11. Check out the highlights:

on whether Newell can submit him: "I'm a Division I All-American – he's not going to grab my neck and choke me out. He could easily rock me with an elbow, a kick, or a knee, and then choke me out. That's a possibility. But he's not going to wrestle me to the ground and choke me out. That's impossible."

On his advantage in the fight: "Nick Newell has never fought a wrestler. Nick Newell has almost never fought anyone with any kind of grappling skills. So I don't know what he's going to do when he can't take me down."

On keeping the fight at the striking stage: "He can't stop a right hand or a right head kick. That's what I'm going to throw, over and over."

On potentially moving to the UFC: "At some point I have to fight the No. 1 lightweights in the world, and they're not in the World Series right now. If they're not in the World Series when I can take those opportunities, then [I have to sign with the UFC]."
