He'll "put a stamp" on him...
Johnny Bedford recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Rani Yahya at UFC Fight Night 39. Check out the highlights:
On his move from Ohio to Texas early in his career: "I was doing the MMA thing and chasing my dream in the early 2000s. I was up late one night on an MMA website and I saw an ad on one of the forums that a gym was hiring an instructor. The next day they called me and asked what I thought about working for them. Dallas turned out to be home because I moved down here seven years ago and I haven't left," Bedford said. "In March of '09, the gym I was working for let me go. I opened a new gym when they closed down and I've owned my own gym ever since. We just had our four-year anniversary."
On his game improving once he got to Texas: "Ohio is a great place but for MMA but there is no opportunity up there like there is down here. I moved down here and I can train with real jiu-jitsu players, some of the best boxers and all that. I definitely improved a lot since moving down here. I took the sport a lot more serious. No one seemed to want to do that before. We never had a coach, we never wanted to learn anything new and when you do that you're going to be a .500 fighter, and that's exactly what I was."
On his physical state: "I know everyone says this, but I truly, truly, truly feel better today than I have for any fight camp. I feel stronger; my cardio is better than it's ever been. You hear it all the time, but honest to god, I've never felt better."
On his plans for the fight: "I'm going to put a stamp on Rani Yahya. I don't plan on letting it go to a decision, I'm going to KO him or TKO him for sure. Then I'm going to move on and hopefully I can fight in June in San Antonio."
