The Nevada State Athletic Commission has named their new executive director. MMAjunkie reports that Robert Bennett was named to the position during an NSAC meeting today in Las Vegas. Bennett was one of three finalists along with Michael Martino and Jeff Mullen; California State Athletic Commission head Andy Foster was a finalist but withdrew his name earlier in the week.
The approval vote was unanimous among the council. The initial pool of applicants numbered at 375. His exact start date has yet to be revealed but should happen before the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana on May 3rd in Vegas.
Bennett is a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent and Marine Corps captain who served as Court Security Director for Clark County's Eighth Judicial District in Nevada. He is an active boxing judge in the state.
NSAC Chairman Francisco Aguilar stated, "As a commission, we believe that Robert will continue to ensure and protect the integrity of unarmed combat in the State of Nevada. He appreciates and respects the sanctity of professional fighting and will be an asset to the commission."
