He just has to beat Donald Cerrone...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Edson Barboza (13-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) said that win tonight at UFC on FOX 11 over Donald Cerrone (22-6 MMA, 9-3 UFC) will get him closer to a lightweight title shot. The two fight on the main card from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It airs on FOX after preliminary fights on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
On being a fan of Cerrone: "He's one of my favorite guys to watch. His standup is great, and he goes for the finish all the time. He comes forward all the time."
On what he hopes will happen: "I hope the fight stays on the feet, because that's what the people like. But it's an MMA fight, and I'm ready for everything. Maybe I'll try to take him down, or maybe he'll take me down. But I hope it stays on the feet."
On getting close to a title shot: I'm very excited, man – 100 percent, it's the fight of my life. This is what I work for. I've never trained like this before. I feel great, and I can't wait. My focus is on a title shot. That's my goal. I want to beat this guy, and I'll be very, very close to a title shot."
