Joe Warren has a new opponent...
MMA Junkie reports that Bellator MMA bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas (16-3 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) has suffered a head injury which has forced the promotion to put together an interim title fight. Dantas' challenger for the event, Joe Warren (10-3 MMA, 8-2 BMMA) will now fight Rafael Silva (21-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) for the vacant belt. The event takes place on May 2 at the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The main card airs on Spike TV after preliminary fights on Spike.com.
Here is the official announcement: "We take head injuries very seriously, and when we were notified that Eduardo was dealing with a head injury, we immediately flew him from Brazil to California to be examined by some of the leading specialists in the field. We are hopeful Eduardo will be able to resume his career later this year, but in the interim we have two incredible tournament winners ready to challenge for the Bellator world title. Two of the best on the planet in Joe Warren and Rafael Silva will fight for the title, and when Dantas is able to return, he will challenge the winner for the undisputed Bellator world title."
Silva was supposed to fight Dantas at Bellator 111 this past month but had to drop out due to a knee injury.
