But now's not the time for superfights...
MMA Junkie reports that at the press conference for the UFC's first show in Mexico, Dana White commented on light heavyweight champion Jon Jones' (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) claims that he was thinking moving up in wait to fight heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (13-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) in a superfight. Jones defended his belt against Glover Teixeira (22-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) at UFC 172 this past Saturday and Velasquez is set to defend against Fabricio Werdum (18-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at UFC 180 on November 15 in Mexico City. Here are highlights:
On the two fighters being too busy for a superfight: "Right now, Cain Velasquez has to fight (Fabricio) Werdum. Jon Jones has (Alexander) Gustafsson, possibly (Daniel) Cormier if he wins that fight (against Dan Henderson) – he's got a lot of guys lined up still."
On Jon Jones moving up to heavyweight eventually: "The other thing is, Jon Jones is 26 years old. As he continues to get older, he will have a harder and harder time making 205 (pounds), which would eventually probably force him up to heavyweight. It's not the time for a Cain versus Jon Jones superfight."
