Melvin Guillard vs Gesias Cavalcante Set For WSOF 11
Posted by Joseph Lee on 05.03.2014

MMA Junkie reports that a lightweight fight between Melvin Guillard (31-13-2) and Gesias Cavalcante (18-7-1) has been set for WSOF 11. The event happens on July 5 on the NBC Sports Network, with preliminary fights on MMA Junkie. A host city and venue hasn't been revealed.

Guillard was booted from the UFC in March after losing by decision to Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 37, dropping to a 2-5 run (with a no contest) after a five fight winning streak that got into title contention in 2011. Cavalcante has previously fought in Strikeforce and DREAM. This will be his fourth fight in WSOF. He's 2-1 with stoppage wins over T.J. O'Brien and Tyson Griffin, along with a TKO loss (due to a cut) to Justin Gaethje. He hopes to get his first back-to-back wins since he won a single-night Hero's tournament in 2007.

Here's the current card:

Champ Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell for lightweight title
Jon Fitch vs. Jake Shields
Gesias Cavalcante vs. Melvin Guillard
