It's why he's missing tonight's PPV...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Patricky Freire (13-5 MMA, 6-4 BMMA) commented on the hand injuries that forced him out of the season ten lightweight tournament final with Marcin Held (18-3 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) at the Bellator 120 PPV from the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi.
On if he broke a bone: "I didn't break anything. I simply injured both hands. I saw some speculation that they were broken, but that's not the case."
On having issues during previous fights: "When I fought David Rickels, both of my hands were already hurt. It was starting to get better, but then on my last fight (against Campos), it got worse again. I re-injured them during the fight itself. Afterward they were swollen. An X-ray at Bellator's request showed no breaks. I couldn't do further exams because I had to travel. When I got back to Brazil, I couldn't box or apply submissions."
On how bad the injury is: "When I arrived in Natal, I could only kick and knee. Even rolling on the ground was painful. I could not grip or push."
He met with doctors earlier this week and they declared he has some ligament damage that needs to be repaired. It's unknown when he will fight again. Freire and Bellator hope to have the tournament final later this year.
