MMA Junkie reports that the Lion Fight muay Thai promotion will team up with the UFC in July. Lion Fight 16 will be part of the "International Fight Week" fan events. The event happens on July 4 at The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas. The main card aires on AXS TV at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT local time). Tickets (starting at $25 plus fees) are available through Ticketmaster and at the venue box office. It features a main event lightweight title fight between Kevin Ross and Michael Thompson. Tiffany Van Soest will likely fight in the co-main event. Thailand's Rungravee Sasiprapa will be on the main card.
Lion Fight CEO Scott Kent said: "Presenting Lion Fight 16 as part of the UFC's International Fight Week, the biggest fan event in the world of combat sports, is a privilege and an honor and further proves that Lion Fight is the premier promotion in standup fighting. I sincerely thank UFC owners Dana White and Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta for giving Lion Fight this opportunity. I promise you and the fans that our Fourth of July full muay Thai rules event will be the ultimate action-packed prelude to your UFC 175 mixed martial arts mega-fight on July 5."
The UFC hosts two events that weekend at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC 175 happens on July 5 (middleweight champion Chris Weidman vs Lyoto Machida, women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey vs Alexis Davis) and The Ultimate Fighter 19 finale on July 6 (BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar). "International Fight Week" will feature the annual UFC Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, a free concert in Las Vegas, pool parties, community events and more.
