“He’s just tough in all positions.”
MMAjunkie Radio recently interviewed UFC lightweight fighter Jamie Varner. Varner is set to face James Krause at UFC 173 on Saturday. Below are some highlights.
Varner on why Krause is a tough match-up: "Those tall, rangy guys are tough for me to fight. He's not really great in one area; he's just good, tough everywhere. He doesn't have that like one standout position or skillset that makes him super dangerous. He's just tough in all positions."
Varner on how he prepared for Krause: "I brought in some tall guys. I brought in some pretty tall kickboxers, tall jiu-jitsu guys and just worked with the big guys to try to get used to that range."
Varner on what he has to do to win: "Obviously, I've got to fight on the inside, whether it's punching, boxing on the inside – or just (trying to) get to the clinch, get the takedown and get the fight on the ground. I've got to fight on the inside because if I fight on the outside, obviously he'll hit me and I won't be able to hit him. I've got to get in close, throw some punches, get the takedown and hopefully get the finish."
