Jake Ellenberger Thinks Robbie Lawler's Winning Streak Is Overblown
Posted by Joseph Lee on 05.23.2014

In an interview with MMA Fighting , Jake Ellenberger called Robbie Lawler's comeback story and winning streak "overblown". Lawler returned to the UFC after almost a decade with three wins in a row to Josh Koscheck, Bobby Voelker, and Rory MacDonald. He earned a welterweight title match but lost by decision to Johny Hendricks in what is being called a "Fight of the Year" candidate. Lawler and Ellenberger will fight at UFC 173 tomorrow night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Ellenberger said: "I think that's been a little bit overblown. You beat a guy like Bobby Voelker, a few guys who were not top 10 guys, he had an impressive win over Koscheck, who also hadn't had a big win in a really long time. Every fight's important, but this is the most important fight by far. I'm getting an opportunity to fight the No. 1 [contender] in the world, it couldn't be better. For me, it's definitely a pretty big fight. It's going to get me closer to the gold."
