Plus what's next for TJ Dillashaw...
Following UFC 173, UFC President Dana White spoke with reporters about what's next for new UFC bantamweight chapmion TJ Dillashaw after his huge upset over former champion over Renan Barao in the main event at UFC 173. Currently, there is top contender Raphael Assuncao, who has a split decision win over Dillashaw but wasn't available to fight for the title due to an injury, as a potential match-up for Dillashaw. In addition, Barao could be up for a rematch. Below are some highlights from White at the scrum on the issue:
White on if he'd rather see Dillashaw rematch with Assuncao or Barao: "I'd want to see both. (But) I'd want to see this rematch. Hell yeah, I'd want to see it. I'd want to see which Barao shows up for the next fight, and I think that's a great fight."
White on what happened with Barao last night and how only Barao knows what went wrong: "You start asking yourself, did [Barao] get caught up in the hype? Did he not take Dillashaw seriously? Did he not do this? Did he not do that. Only he knows that. Only he knows the answer to that. I think he came out to fight the fight but got caught. When you get hit with the shot he got hit with, most people would have got knocked out with that shot. He kept fighting and showed lots of heart and durability. But good question: How does he bounce back from a loss like that? … We're all going to see what Renan Barao is really made of."
