Woodley feels he could take the title shot by beating Rory MacDonald…
- Tyron Woodley recently spoke about the status of the crowded welterweight division and looking for a title shot. Here are the highlights…
On The Winner of Brown-Lawler Being Awarded a Welterweight Title Shot: "I don't think anybody is getting awarded anything. This is the UFC. You don't think they can switch that and change the promos on the spot? I think it's performance-based."
On The UFC Trying to Motivate Him: "I think they're trying to put a fire underneath me, underneath Rory, underneath Robbie and Matt," Woodley said. "They told me I could get a title shot. I guess they told Robbie and (Jake) Ellenberger (prior to their UFC 173 bout), and now Robbie's fighting Matt Brown."
On Beating Rory MacDonald at UFC 174: "I think the best performance is going to get a title shot," Woodley said. "My goal is really to focus on beating Rory MacDonald in a dominant fashion – to go up to Vancouver and do my thing. Everything else, whether they give me a shot or not, I'm eventually going to win the world title. I'm going to be in the title picture. "But I just need to focus on this kid because if I go out there and I don't win, then I'm not getting a world title anyway."
