Daniel Cormier Will Have Knee Surgery In July
Posted by Joseph Lee on 06.19.2014

MMA Junkie reports that Daniel Cormer (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) has set his knee surgery for July, after an exhibition wrestling match. Cormier had been waiting to find out if he would get a shot at UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC), who instead will fight Alexander Gustafsson (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) on September 27 at UFC 178. Jones had interest in fighting Cormier, who put off his knee surgery in case he would got the opportunity.

The news of his surgery was revealed by Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight last night. The wrestling "superfight" happens on July 5. It's part of UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas just before UFC 175 on July 5 and The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale on July 6.

Cormier has a tear of his lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and a malformed anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). It was discovered just before his UFC 173 win over Dan Henderson last month. That win made Cormier 2-0 since he moved to light heavyweight from heavyweight. Cormier is hoping to fight the winner of Jones-Gustafsson in early 2015.
