Kelvin Gastelum Talks About Keeping The Judges In Mind

In an interview with MMA Junkie, The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) spoke about the recent string of controversial decisions from judges at UFC events. He will fight on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 44 against welterweight Nico Musoke (12-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC). The fight is a part of the Fox Sports 1 main card and airs from the San Antonio's AT&T Center.

Gastelum is coming off of a split decision win over Rick Story at UFC 171. He said now that he's a full-time fighter he can train more (he was previously only training a couple of hours a day due to his previous job) and it's allowed him to improve. He trains with Yuma United MMA.

The recent judges decisions' that have been questioned include Diego Sanchez' unanimous decision over Ross Pearson at UFC Fight Night 42 and Andrei Arlovski's split decision over Brendan Schaub at UFC 174.

Gastelum said: "What I've seen was the guys that keep the pressure coming forward even though they might not be landing as much or being as effective, but they are moving forward and trying to win the fight I think that's what the judges are seeing. (They're) giving those fighters the nod on the decisions."
