Luke Zachrich Says He Nearly Quit MMA Just Before UFC 175 Call
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 07.06.2014

Luke Zachrich told MMAjunkie following his win over Guilherme Vasconcelos at UFC 175 last night that before he got the call for the fight, he was considering transitioning into boxing. Zachrich, who had a stint on The Ultimate Fighter 7 in 2008 but didn't earn a contract, said that the timing was very fortuitous.

"It has been a very, very long hard road – I've been doing this for almost 10 years," Zachrich said. "I tasted a little bit of it in 2008, so it's been six years. I was the first season where they basically cut everyone who didn't make the semifinals and didn't get to fight on the finale."

He continued, "I took the last fight on 11 days notice and before the last one I almost decided to hang it up and start boxing, honest to god. As soon as I stopped thinking about the UFC and coming back here and doing something in the boxing; boom, the phone rings. I kind of gave up on it for a second."
