Following his agreement to not fight…
According to MMAjunkie.com, a source close to the Nevada State Athletic Commission says that the commission has sent a letter to Chael Sonnen, looking to put an end to his grappling contest against Andre Galvao at this weekend's Metamoris 4 event. The feeling is that the grappling match violates the terms of his suspension and agreement with the NCAS to not compete while under a two-year suspension. The commission is reportedly threatening to take administrative action against the now-retired fighter in the form of fines, which could stretch into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Jeff Meyer, Chael Sonnen legal representative, sent a response that challenged the NSAC's definition of competing. At the time of this writing, it appears Sonnen will meet Galvao as scheduled It should be noted that the Metamoris 4 grappling competition is not sanctioned by a state athletic commission. This is because it isn't considered a combat sport in the same way as are boxing and MMA, but the NSAC wants Sonnen to withdraw from the event.
