Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier Scratched From UFC 178
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.12.2014

The highly-anticipated grudge match that was to main event UFC 178 is off. UFC officials have announced that Jones suffered a leg injury during training and has been forced out of his bout with Cormier. The promotion said that the fight will now happen at UFC 182 on January 3rd. In the wake of the injury, the UFC has moved the UFC 177 co-main event fight between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso into the main event slot.

The fight between Jones and Cormier had been a hot point of topic considering the two fighters' antipathy toward each other, which was heightened when they got into a brawl at a pre-fight press conference. Things hit a new level after leaked footage from after a joint ESPN interview showed some verbal barbs between the two, including Jones telling Cormier that if Cormier ever made good on a threat to spit in his face, he would "literally kill" the challenger.

UFC 178 takes place on September 27th in Las Vegas, while UFC 182 goes down on January 3rd in the same city.
