He faces Tony Ferguson…
- Danny Castillo recently spoke about his UFC 177 co-main event fight with Tony Ferguson. Here are the highlights…
On The Importance of His UFC 177 Fight: "A win is going to be good for me and my career, but in order for me to advance and to get those big fights, I really need to go out there and finish this fight. Same thing for him. So you have two hungry fighters that are overlooked a lot; I would say I'm overlooked. Him, not so much, because he was on (‘The Ultimate Fighter'). But there are a lot of people out there who don't know who I am, so I need this fight."
On Being Prepared Despite Being Overlooked: "I'm in camp with talented fighters that are all in the top 10, and I feel like I'm holding us up," he said. "I haven't had any fights on the main card, so I tend to get overlooked. The only people who know how tough I am are the guys in the lightweight division. They take notice, because you have to. But as far as the fans, they don't know much about me."
On Fighting For Recognition: "This is going to be my 19th fight with the company, which a lot of people don't know that. I still don't have the recognition that I should for having 19 fights with Zuffa. This will be my 11th in the UFC, and I've gone on streaks and had a setback. I think right now, with where I'm at in my career, I think I'm the total mixed martial artist. My ground game is great, my standup game is evolving, and the power has always been there. I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm counting on it being my breakout fight."
