They fight tonight...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Chris Heatherly (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) said that he thinks he can get through the defense of Ben Saunders (16-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC). They will fight on the FOX Sports 2 preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 49 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On avoiding the reach of Saunders: "He's tall, but I feel like I'm going to have better footwork and the speed advantage. Even though he's 6-foot-3, if he ends up on his back, he's going to be the same height as me. So as far as getting inside, I don't see a problem. I just need to close the distance quick and do me."
On not being bothered by a disadvantage: "I've had 30 amateur fights, and I'm on my 10th or 11th professional fight, so I've fought in all sorts of rings and cages. At the end of the day, you're coming in there to fight. If you're a fighter, you know what you're coming to do, and that's fight. You might have to chase someone around a little bit, but if you're going to implement your game plan, that's what you're going to do, regardless of what shape the cage is."
On Saunders' experience: "He's been in the game a long time and had a lot of high-profile fights, and I'm just an up-and-comer looking to make a name. But I think it's going to be a different story once the cage doors close once people realize I'm there to fight. I'm not just going to go away. We're going to handle it like businessmen, and hopefully make a million new fans and win a ‘Fight of the Night' bonus and get at it."
