"I thought my career was gone..."
MMAjunkie recently spoke to UFC fighter Hector Lombard and his American Top Team trainer and coach Marcus Silveira discussed Lombard dealing with a herniated cervical disc in his spine. You can check out a video of the interview with Lombard at the above link. Below are some highlights.
Lombard on his concerns over the injury: "I was scared. At first, I thought my career was gone. And then second, I was worried about my health."
Silveira on Lombard's injury: "We were worried because even if you're the brightest star as a fighter, that will pass. We want them to have a healthy life, a good life, when that's over. But I don't think this will stop Hector. I think it's going to be a positive for him. It will make him take some time to take care of the injury."
Silveira on how hard Lombard trains: "Some guys train hard, and some guys always want to train harder. Hector, I would say, belongs to the guys who want to train harder. That's just how he is."
Lombard on his showeather nickname: "Showeather stands for, ‘I'm ready for any weather. I'm ready to show you all.'"
Lombard on criticisms he has received for his fighting and training styles: "Story of my life. Since I started doing MMA, I've been criticized. But I can't worry about that. I have to be positive and keep going. F–k the haters."
