Lombard said yes to the fight…
Speaking to UFC.com, UFC President Dana White revealed that the fight promotion is looking into booking a potential welterweight bout between Tyron Woodley (No. 3) and Hector Lombard (No. 6).
Woodley is coming off a first round knockout win over Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 48 in Macau, China last weekend. After the fight, Woodley called out No. 5-ranked welterweight fighter Matt Brown.
White stated on the match-up: "What's weird about that is that Woodley calls out Matt Brown, but he's ranked higher than Matt Brown. But we want to do Tyron Woodley vs. Hector Lombard – that's the fight we want to do. Hector said yes, we're just waiting to hear from Woodley. Lombard said he would fight him, no problem."
Since moving down to welterweight, Lombard has won his last two fights, beating Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields. One issue with the possible Woodley/Lombard fight is that both fighters are training partners out of the American Top Team camp. In the past, Woodley has not liked the idea of fighting Lombard unless a title was on the line. It appears for Lombard at least, circumstances have changed.
In the interview, White also said a bout between Condit and Brown is possible. The two were originally scheduled to fight at UFC on Fox 9 last December. The fight was scrapped after Brown was forced to pull out due to injury.
